How ARAS can assist

ARAS advocates can support older people to:

  • understand and exercise their aged care rights;
  • access information about Support at Home and CHSP services, rights, responsibilities and options;
  • understand information provided by their aged care provider;
  • have their voice, wishes, preferences, needs and desired outcomes heard and respected;
  • participate in decisions about their care and services;
  • communicate with aged care providers about their services, care arrangements or concerns;
  • raise and address concerns, feedback or complaints about their aged care;
  • explore options and strategies for addressing an aged care issue;
  • build their confidence to self-advocate, where appropriate; and
  • access other appropriate services or supports where required.

Information, Education and Self-Advocacy

ARAS provides information to help older people understand their aged care rights and options and build their confidence to speak up about matters that are important to them.

ARAS also provides information and education about aged care rights and advocacy.

The Older Person's voice and consent

ARAS works with and at the direction of the older person, wherever possible.

ARAS will seek the older person's consent before taking action on their behalf and will work with an authorised representative where appropriate.

Where a family member, representative or other supporter is involved, the rights, wishes, preferences and interests of the older person remain central to the advocacy provided.
